Mrs Ferguson studied Medicine at Guy’s Hospital, London University after leaving Woldingham School and trained to become an Ophthalmologist.
In 1996 she was appointed Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon and Honorary Senior Lecturer at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, the first academic health science centre in the UK where clinical excellence and research develop together.
Mrs Ferguson sees patients with emergency problems as well as routine referrals from GPs, optometrists and other specialists. She also sees patients with more specific problems due to cataract, optic nerve problems, glaucoma, strabismus and double vision and neurological eye problems. She carries out eye surgery every week, with a total of approximately 700 cases per year; this includes predominantly cataract and strabismus surgery (with and without adjustable sutures). She also uses botulinum toxin for treating muscular problems around the eyes, strabismus (squint) and double vision.
Mrs Ferguson gives some of her spare time as a Consulting Ophthalmologist to Blind Veteran’s UK, a charity which supports blind ex-service personnel (formerly St Dunstan’s) and to St Luke’s Charity for the clergy.
She was Surgeon Oculist to Her Majesty’s Household from 2002 and became Surgeon Oculist to Her Majesty The Queen in April 2018.
