King Edward VII’s Hospital awarded for its commitment to Joint Replacement Surgery

King Edward VII’s Hospital has been recognised as a National Joint Registry (NJR) Quality Data Provider for the fourth consecutive year. This achievement highlights King Edward VII’s Hospitals dedication to patient safety, after successfully completing a comprehensive national data quality audit programme for their hospital.

The registry collects high quality orthopaedic data in order to support patient safety, standards in quality of care, and overall value in joint replacement surgery.

The NJR Quality Data Provider certificate scheme is designed to offer hospitals a blueprint for reaching standards relating to patient safety and rewards those who have met registry targets. It monitors the performance of hipkneeankle, elbow and shoulder joint replacement operations to improve clinical outcomes for the benefit of patients, clinicians and industry. The process to achieving the accolade also plays an essential role to provide feedback on surgical performance to orthopaedic clinicians and joint replacement implant manufacturers.

To achieve this certificate, hospitals are required to meet a series of six targets during the audit period 2022/23. One of these targets include completing compliance with the NJR’s mandatory national audit aimed at assessing data completeness and quality within the registry.

The award recognises each member of staff in the Pre-op Assessment, Wards and Theatre teams, led by Desmond Runganga (Head of Orthopaedics) and Daisy Danosos (Lead Practitioner & NJR Lead).

Desmond Runganga, Head of Orthopaedics at King Edward VII’s Hospital, said:

“At King Edward VII’s Hospital, patient safety is at the heart of everything we do and we’re delighted to be recognised for our efforts in this area. This wouldn’t be possible without the hard work and expertise of our incredible team who are dedicated to upholding the highest standards of care. The National Joint Registry is instrumental in driving excellence in orthopaedics, and we are honoured to be named as a Gold Level Quality Data Provider.”

Siân Allen, Medical Director at King Edward VII’s Hospital, said:
