Professional Biography

Dr Ricardo José is a Consultant Physician in Respiratory Medicines at King Edward VII's Hospital. He specialises in diagnosing and managing respiratory conditions. He has particular expertise in respiratory infections, bronchiectasis, and cancer-related pulmonary complications. {{ label }}

Dr José holds a PhD in Respiratory Infection, Inflammation and Immunity from University College London (UCL), a Diploma in Anaesthetics from the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa, and Postgraduate Certificate in Public Health from the University of Manchester. He specialised in both respiratory medicine and general internal medicine as an academic clinical fellow and clinical lecturer at UCL, and was awarded a prestigious Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Training Fellowship to conduct his research. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (London) and is trained in bronchoscopy, endoscopic bronchial ultrasound and thoracic ultrasound.

Dr José is a Consultant member of the British Thoracic Society Bronciectasis Specialist Advisory Group and until recenlty was an elected member of the BTS Council, member of the BTS Standards of Care Committee, and past member of the BTS Science and Research Committee. He is a member and deputy clinical respiratory immunologist on the North West London sub-regional immunoglobulin assessment panel and Honorary Associate Professor at UCL.

Dr José sees patients with all respiratory symptoms including shortness of breath, cough, chest pain and wheeze.

He has a special interest in the diagnosis and management of:

  • Chest infections
  • Bronchiectasis
  • Chronic cough
  • Unexplained breathlessness
  • Airway disease (COPD, Asthma, Bronchiolitis)
  • Pulmonary complications associated with cancer therapy
