Dr Siva is a Geriatrician who has specialist expertise in working with surgeons and anaesthetists in managing the older surgical and trauma patient. Together, they have demonstrated significant improvements in patient outcomes.
She has experience of collaborating with surgeons in the following specialties: orthopaedics, neurosurgery, plastics, vascular, ear nose and throat, max fax, urology, general surgery and trauma.
Dr Siva has more than 10 years experience at consultant level in managing patients with complex medical conditions, who are undergoing , in some cases complex , surgeries . In addition, she has a broad experience of general geriatrics and general internal medicine.
Dr Dhanupriya (Dhanu) Sivapathasuntharam (Siva) is a Consultant in General Medicine and Geriatrician at King Edward VII's Hospital. Dr Siva specialises in peri-operative care for older surgical and trauma patients. {{ label }}
She is consultant geriatrician and Clinical Lead for Older Peoples Services and the Trauma and Perioperative Older Peoples’ Services at the Royal London Hospital and practices privately at King Edward VII Hospital.
Dr Siva has extensive experience managing complex cases with multiple co-morbidities. This includes leading rehabilitation and working with multidisciplinary teams to provide holistic, patient-centered care. She also works closely with surgeons (both pre and post-operatively) to improve outcomes, reduce complications, and optimise recovery time. Additionally, she has experience of collaborating with surgeons in the following specialties: orthopaedics, neurosurgery, plastics, vascular, ear nose and throat, max fax, urology, general surgery and trauma.
Dr Siva earned her degree from the University of Nottingham and completed additional training in Geriatric and General Internal Medicine at prestigious institutions including Guys and St Thomas’ Hospital and Kings College Hospital. In 2017 she returned to London after working as a substantive consultant at John Radcliffe Hospital.
In addition to her clinical work, she is also the lead of the undergraduate Geriatric Medicine Module at Barts and The London Medical School, where she lectures regularly on various topics related to geriatric medicine, in addition to organising the curriculum and examining. She has appeared on The Business Station podcast to explain what she does and the growing importance of Geriatricians in an ageing population.
Dr Siva undertook a research project during the 1st wave of the pandemic, looking at characteristics and outcomes of patients admitted with COVID-19 to the older peoples services wards at the Royal London Hospital.

Over the past 12 years as a consultant, Dr Siva has been involved in training several registrars who have now become consultants in geriatric medicine. In particular, she has trained individuals in the peri-operative management of older patients.
